Description
The second series of the XK-E retained the model's exceptional aesthetics and introduced numerous vital engine and interior upgrades. It featured the largest capacity 4.2lt engine fuel-fed via 2 instead of 3 carburetors for smoother operation, easier tuning and lower emissions. The larger air intake and twin radiator cooling permitted better engine operation and performance. The driving experience benefited from a full synchromesh gearbox and adjustable seats. Safety was also addressed by fitting seat headrests, impact-absorbing steering column, rocker switches, open headlights, larger taillights and redesigned rear bumper. The upgrades were greatly received by the public with sales rising at their peak for the model. However, due to its limited production run, the second series cars are rarer than their predecessors. Notably, in its purest FHC form there were only 4850 Series II units produced compared to 15442 of Series I.
This particular FHC was sourced in 2007 for its originality, color combination and southern US history.
Once acquired it was imported in Greece and received FIA accreditation for its authenticity. In 2016 a series of repairs were conducted with mechanical maintenance and interior preservation in mind. All parts were sourced through marque specialists S.N.G Barratt Group, UK. The engine was fully serviced with new gaskets, pumps, thermostat, mounts and hoses. The carburetors were fully rebuilt and tuned to perfection. All suspension and steering bushes as well as brake hoses were fitted new. The driver’s and passenger’s floors were replaced and the paint received a deep polish treatment. The interior was also detailed after numerous small repairs to preserve its authenticity.
This exceedingly elegant and fully sorted FHC is now offered in excellent condition.
